uniDEM Lidar Classification Tools

LAS classification and metadata values and flags such as overlap and withheld can be set or modified using uniDEM.

Set (LAS Class) From Drawing

Sets the LAS point classifications within a drawn polygon or rectangle (see Drawing Tools).

Set (LAS Class) From Metadata

Sets the LAS point classifications within a drawn polygon or rectangle (see Drawing Tools) or for the entire dataset if no drawing made. This can be useful for classifying features based on intensity values or other metadata stored within the LAS metadata.

Set (LAS Class) From DEM

Set From DEM allows lidar classification in 3D classification relative to localized terrain height using a digital elevation model (DEM).

When associated with a land use classification mask selections can be assigned to seperate LAS classifications into low noise, ground, low vegetation, medium vegetation and high vegetation.

Transfer (from LAS class) to Metadata

LAS lidar points hold a number of metadata values and flags. These can be modified to identify overlap, withheld and other values.

This feature can be used to migrate LAS v1.2 to 1.4. For example overlap is a binary flag in LAS version 1.4 while it was a class in version 1.2. For the overlap region to be segmented the overlap metadata flag can be set.

Please note that values entered into metadata fields are not checked for correctness. Care must be taken to avoid corruption.

Delete (points of specified LAS class)

To simplify the view lidar points can be deleted for classes that are not needed for processing.

Please note that the lidar file must be reloaded if these points are needed later. To modify only the view but keep the points loaded try Show/Hide Classes.
